This workshop provides an opportunity to review and apply the principles and techniques used in revising French-to-English translations and in coaching and giving feedback to junior translators.

Translators and revisers working from French into English.

Prerequisite

Participants should be revising French-to-English translations as part of their regular duties.

Language

This workshop is conducted in English.

Learning objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants will better understand:
  • the parameters of revision: accuracy, correctness, idiomatic and natural style, and adaptation to the end use of the translated text
  • different types of revision: pragmatic revision, formative revision, interrevision, prerevision
  • the appropriate degree of revision in different circumstances
  • reference works helpful to the reviser
  • revision techniques, including revision symbols and ways to approach the translation
  • communication skills helpful in providing feedback to translators
