TERMIUM Plus^®, the Translation Bureau's flagship product, is available for free to everyone on the Internet. Although you may have thought it was a mere dictionary, you will be surprised to discover all that TERMIUM Plus^® offers!

In fact, TERMIUM Plus^® is a quadrilingual terminology database, which is kind of like a specialized dictionary. TERMIUM Plus^® contains federal government terminology in English, French, Spanish and... Portuguese! And not only is a giant terminology database, but it is your one-stop shop for French verb conjugations, tips for writing letters and emails, English style guides, and more!

Do you ever have to write briefing notes or technical documents? Do you ever wonder what the correct name of that department is? Or how to say assistant deputy minister in French? Do you know what IFR stands for? What about TDD? Would you like to know how to find the right word every time?

Then sign up for our practical workshop! You will find out how to take full advantage of TERMIUM Plus^® by using various search techniques and using the various writing tools that are integrated in TERMIUM Plus^® (specialized dictionaries, French verb conjugation tools, etc.).

Prerequisite

Participants should have a good knowledge of Windows and know how to use an Internet browser.

Learning objectives

At the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:

• Explain the difference between a terminology database and a dictionary;
• Carry out simple and advanced searches in TERMIUM Plus^®;
• Choose the right term from a list of different synonyms;
• Use the many different writing tools found in TERMIUM Plus^®.
