Description

Do you know what an anacoluthon is? What about a zeugma, or a solecism? They are all names of problems with sentence structure (syntax) that can make a translated text ambiguous or even unintentionally hilarious. The goal of this workshop will be to help you recognize these errors in order to avoid them. During the workshop, you will also review the rules for using present participles in English and in French.

Recipients

Translators, revisers and other language professionals.

Prerequisite

The participants must already be involved in translating or revising texts from English to French.

Language

The workshop is given in French; however, the participants are encouraged to make comments and ask questions in English or French, as they wish.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:

• Recognize and correct various problems with sentence structure.
• Spot correct and incorrect usage of the present participle in English and in French.
