News from the Translation Bureau

Changes to the Bureau's management team

The Translation Bureau is pleased to announce that the management team has gained a new member. On January 19, Adam Gibson, previously Director General of Health Canada's Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNGPD), joined the Translation Bureau as Vice-President, Linguistic Services. The organization will benefit from his knowledge and experience in transformation and program modernization.

The Translation Bureau would like to take this opportunity to thank Sylvain Dufour, who, during his two-year term, successfully implemented many changes required to improve the Bureau's efficiency and strengthen relationships with our partners. Mr. Dufour will remain in his position for a few more months to support the new Vice-President and will serve as a special adviser to the Chief Executive Officer to advance certain strategic issues at the Bureau.

Upcoming activities

The year 2015 is also expected to bring a number of promising projects to the Bureau. These include the imminent creation of the Industry Representatives Advisory Panel, which will aim to strengthen the Bureau's relationship with the language industry by establishing a body to discuss supplier and industry issues and perspectives on Bureau and government initiatives.

Also, many pilot projects are underway to take advantage of the technological tools in place and other business solutions in language technologies that will improve the way of doing things and how activities are carried out at the Bureau. Further information on these initiatives will be provided over the next few months.

Procurement reform

The Translation Bureau, in collaboration with PWGSC's Acquisitions Branch (AB), is currently working on developing a new procurement tool for interpretation services. Engagement and information activities are also planned. More information will soon follow in a separate communiqué.

Finally, the Request for Supply Arrangement was recently reposted on buyandsell.gc.ca. This is an opportunity for official language translation service providers to qualify for additional resources or to add one or more fields of work.

Thank you for your continued interest, and we hope to have more good news to share with you throughout the year.
