Description

Is it really necessary to say everything that the English text says? Are translations always longer than the originals? The French language does have ways to be briefer and, contrary to what you may think, English isn't always a concise language. In this workshop, we will go over the different techniques for producing precise, concise translations.

Recipients

Translators, revisers and other language professionals.

Prerequisite

The participants must already be involved in translating or revising texts from English to French.

Language

The workshop is given in French; however, the participants are encouraged to make comments and ask questions in English or French, as they wish.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:

• Be able to distinguish between necessary and superfluous elements.
• Know how to get rid of heavy turns of phrase and be more implicit.
• Know how to avoid sentences that trap them into using the subjunctive.

$200 (Free of charge for Translation Bureau employees)
