1. Consequential Amendment: An amendment which is required to be made to a bill as a consequence of the making of an amendment in another part of the bill.
2. Amendment to a Proposed Amendment: An amendment to insert or delete words to a motion, bill, clause or schedule; can be amended in the same way as the original motion was amended.

An act of approving formally or officially.

Heraldic bearings. On the Nunavut Coat of Arms, the dominant colours of blue and gold symbolize the riches of the land, sea and sky. In the base of the shield, the inuksuk symbolizes the stone monuments which guide the people on the land and mark sacred and other special places. The qulliq, or Inuit seal oil stone lamp, represents light and warmth of family and community. The concave arc of the five gold circles refers to the life-giving properties of the sun arching above and below the horizon. The star is Nuuttuituq, "the star that doesn't move," the North Star, which is the traditional guide for navigation. In the crest, the iglu represents the traditional life of the people and the means of survival. The Royal Crown symbolizes public government for all people of Nunavut and establishes Nunavut as a partner in Confederation. The tuktu (caribou) and qilalugaq tugaalik (narwhal) refer to land and sea animals which are part of the natural heritage of Nunavut. The base of the crest is composed of land and sea and features three species of Arctic wildflowers. The motto in Inuktitut—Nunavut Sanginivut—means "Nunavut, our strength."

The Commissioner is a civil servant who reports to the federal minister of Indian and Northern Affairs. The Commissioner is the head of state for Nunavut and has duties and responsibilities similar to a provincial Lieutenant Governor. The Commissioner gives final assent to laws.

The panel oversees and provides direction on the implementation of the Nunavut Land Claim Agreement. The panel looks to see if all three parties (the Government of Canada, Nunavut Tunngavik, and the Territorial Government) are living up to their obligations under the agreement. Panel members also try to solve disputes between parties before they proceed to arbitration or legal recourse. Two panel members are appointed by NTI, while the GOC and territorial government appoint one each.

The Nunavut Implementation Committee (NITC) fulfills the training and education needs of Inuit as related to the implementation of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, through DIOs and institutions of public government. The Nunavut Trust manages the purse strings and invests the land claims settlement money on behalf of the Inuit of Nunavut. It also receives and manages royalties. An advisory committee of leading financial and investment experts provides recommendations. Six trustees appointed by the RIAs control the trust. The chair of the Nunavut Trust also acts as an ex-officio member of the NTI board.

The department has a variety of programs in regards to sustainable development including Parks and Tourism which was primarily established to serve local tourism by providing camping and recreational opportunities; wildlife management based on the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement; and Minerals, Oils and Gas. The department's goal is to work with their partners to develop a strong sustainable-resource exploration and development sector that is managed by and for the people of Nunavut. Fisheries, sealing and offshore fisheries for shrimp and turbot provide more than 150 jobs. It also works toward eliminating the trade barriers for seal products. A corporation mandated by the Government of Nunavut and the Government of the Northwest Territories to promote worker safety and to collect funds from employers which are then used to rehabilitate and assist injured workers (or the families of deceased workers). The Worker's Compensation Board in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut also runs a hunter's safety and support program for those injured or killed on the land. Although individual workers cannot sue employers or individuals for unsafe working conditions leading to injury, the WCB has the authority to do so in their place.
