Description
The Translation Consultation gives the participant an opportunity to work one-on-one with a trainer to overcome weaknesses or acquire new skills. This activity is appropriate for new translators looking to consolidate their skills, experienced translators who wish to take stock of their work, and any communications professional preparing to take on new translation-related duties.

Open to
Translators and other communications professionals.
Prerequisites
The participant still exhibits problems in transferring the message, for example tends to follow the original text too closely, omits or adds elements, or uses words inappropriately
OR
The participant still has areas for improvement in English, for example still makes errors in spelling, grammar, syntax or usage.
OR
The participant exhibits the need for improvement in work methods or time management.
OR
The participant exhibits the need for improvement in terminological research.
Language
This activity is conducted in English.
Learning objectives
At the end of the one-day skills review, the participant will be able to:
- take stock of the strengths and weaknesses in his or her translations
- devise practical ways to pursue his or her ongoing self-development
Method
- prior analysis by the trainer of work samples provided by the participant
- readings and exercises selected in light of the participant's needs
- discussion of work methods, client relations, time management
