This workshop explores the many facets of the work of those required to coach translators: revisers. The topics addressed include the recognized criteria for ensuring quality in professional translation, the pitfalls of revision, characterization and explaining revisions, useful reference works and the factors to consider for ensuring that your revisions are measured.

Prerequisite

The participants must already be involved in translating and revising texts from English to French.

Learning objectives

At the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:
  • Base their revisions of a text on the profession's recognized criteria for ensuring quality.
  • Effectively strike the right balance and be able to explain their revisions.
  • Choose the type of revision to make on the basis of such factors as the nature of the document being revised, its audience and the amount of time at the reviser's disposal.
  • Identify the strong and weak points of a translation so as to help the translator improve.
