Eligibility criteria by type of service

Aboriginal languages

Individuals wishing to be listed in the Directory shall

• have the target language as their mother tongue;
  AND
• include a curriculum vitae.

The suppliers' files shall be duly reviewed by managers of the Multilingual Translation, Immigration and Citizenship Division.

Firms wishing to be listed in the Directory shall

• retain the services of at least one person who meets the criteria outlined immediately above.

Foreign languages

Individuals wishing to be listed in the Directory shall

• For major languages as listed in the United Nations Charter (i.e. English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French and Russian):
  • have the target language as their mother tongue;
    AND
  • have obtained a university degree or the equivalent in the target language (attach copy of degree);
  • provide representative samples of work in the source and target languages;
  • provide relevant references;
  • include a curriculum vitae.
• For other foreign languages:
  • have their files duly reviewed by managers of the Multilingual Translation, Immigration and Citizenship Division.

Firms wishing to be listed in the Directory shall

• For each of the major languages requested:
  • retain the services of at least one person who meets the criteria outlined immediately above.
• For other foreign languages:
  • have their files duly reviewed by managers of the Multilingual Translation, Immigration and Citizenship Division.
