Description

How can you produce idiomatic translations that read well and don't sound like the original English? In this workshop, you will discover tricks to improve your style and choose the right collocation. You will do various exercises on spelling discrepancies (taking into account the 1990 Spelling Reform), tricky words, and usage.

Recipients

Translators, revisers and other language professionals.

Prerequisite

The participants must already be involved in translating or revising texts from English to French.

Language

The workshop is given in French; however, the participants are encouraged to make comments and ask questions in English or French, as they wish.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will:
  • Translate more idiomatically.
  • Avoid certain spelling traps.
  • Know how to get rid of heavy turns of phrase in their translations.
