If you are establishing terminology equivalences between two languages, once you have finished the term extraction, result compilation and record creation for all the documentation in one language, you do the same in the other language.

Then, once you have single-concept files for equivalent terms in each language, you try to match textual supports in one language with textual supports in the other by ensuring that both contain the same semantic features, which define the concept of the record.

Here are some commonly accepted guidelines for recording terms:

  • Enter terms in singular unless the plural is required to properly designate the concept.
  • Enter terms in lowercase, except when uppercase is required in order for the term to be correct.
  • Enter terms without elements in parentheses unless they are required in order for the term to be correct (avoid indicating subject fields or optional words in parentheses).
  • Enter all variant forms you found of the term to increase the chances that your users succeed in accessing the record when they query the terminology database.
