In this lesson, you will learn about how international committees standardize terminology.
While a terminology project often involves standardizing the terminology of a particular subject field or activity, the work of a standardization committee, especially an international committee, is more focused and is tied to the terminology used in a specific standard or set of related standards.
Although the topics below deal with the key principles of a typical international standardization committee such as those of ISO, the information can be extrapolated and applied to other standardization-like activities. For example, the NATO Standardization Agency’s terminology committees, that standardize terms and definitions specific to their Agreed Documents (rather than to standards), should find the following information applicable.
